What is an MOT?

An MOT is an annual test that checks the safety levels and roadworthiness of a vehicle (and examines exhaust emissions if applicable). It’s a legal requirement for the majority of vehicles that are more than three years old.

What is a service?

A service is basically a vehicle health check. It examines your car’s condition by checking for wear and tear. If extra work is required to ensure that your vehicle complies with minimum safety standards, we'll always consult you before taking any further action.

How long does an MOT take?

On average, between 45 and 60 minutes – possibly longer if your vehicle fails its MOT.

How long does a service take?

It depends on the type of service. For instance, an interim service can take around 90 minutes while a full (annual) service might last up to three hours.

What’s the difference between an MOT and a service?

While a service isn’t a legal requirement, it is highly recommended because it takes into account wear and tear and will keep your car performing at peak capacity.

An MOT is a legal requirement (for most vehicles more than three years old). Without a valid MOT, you won’t be able to drive your car.
