The New Optima is now available with Kia’s all-new ‘U3’ diesel engine, designed to go beyond the stricter
limits laid down by the Euro 6d TEMP emissions standard. The new ‘U3’ 1.6-litre CRDi replaces the previous
1.7-litre CRDi engine.
To comply with the latest Euro 6d Temp regulations Optima will now utilise Selective Catalytic Reduction
(SCR) technology. Diesel vehicles are fitted with SCR to make use of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (urea) stored in a
separate tank. Please ensure this tank is filled to maximum capacity as part of the PDI process. This is
directly injected into a specially modified part of the vehicle’s exhaust. A chemical reaction then removes
polluting oxides of nitrogen (NOx). This is converted into harmless water & nitrogen.
